Plan an Event

Hosting an event is a great way to raise funds and awareness for your cause! Here are ten steps to planning a successful event:

1. Decide on an idea. What will you do, and what cause will you do it for? Prior to planning, you should contact the organization/cause that you will be supporting and inform them of your intentions.

2. Set goals. What exactly are you trying to achieve from this event? Think about your expectations and how you can achieve them.

3. Get permission. Make sure your school/local officials have signed off on your event before you start planning.

4. Find a location. Where will the event be held?

5. Develop a budget. How much will the event cost, and how will you pay? What is your estimated profit? If you need tips on how to receive seed money, visit our Get Funded page.

6. Find volunteers. Get together friends, family, and community members to help you make your dream a reality! Assign different jobs to each volunteer. Try to hold regular meetings so that each member can update the group.

7. Get Materials. Make sure that you have everything that you need for your event to run smoothly. Try asking local businesses to donate their services for your cause.

8. Publicize. Do whatever you can to get your community to know about the event – posters, newsletters, etc. Contact local media and officials so that they can help publicize, too.

9. Count down to the special day!

10. Congratulate and reflect! Don’t forget to thank your volunteers for a job well done. Think about what you have accomplished and how it can be better next time. Be proud of your achievement!
