About the Program

Shakti Girls seeks to empower sex-trafficking victims and girls throughout India with a holistic education, supplemented by vocational training. "Shakti" means power in Hindi.

With sites in Kolkata and New Delhi, the Shakti Girls program has already aided the development of an arts empowerment program and has held Change Forums at these locations.

Current Goals

Shakti Girls is working to create and fund a community development program for the women of the Perna Community in Najafgarh, New Delhi. An estimated 85% of women in this community are forced into prostitution; education and vocational training will provide them with sustainable livelihoods and ensure that their children reach their full potential. We are also working at other sites in India.
