Refining Research

You've found your interest area; to start your initiative, you need to research your interest and define your real passion. Start here:

1. Once you’ve found your potential passion, research!

Gather as many facts about your passion as you can. As you research, decide whether this issue really is your passion – do you feel that you could devote time to making a difference about this issue? If not, go back to the drawing board; remember, there’s no strict or formal way to find a passion, and sometimes, it’s an epiphany.

2. When you’ve finally decided or realized your passion, get thinking about some key questions:

-What exactly is the problem, and who/what is impacted by it?

-What type of action do you want to take to tackle this issue?

-Why is this issue important? What makes it special for you?

3. Now it's time to do more research and start defining your approach. Think about these issues:

Who else is working to solve the problem? Is there an organization that you might partner with to work to solve the problem?

Oftentimes, when you want to work in a country halfway across the world, you need to partner with a grassroots organization that is based in that country. Sometimes, especially if you're working locally, you have to implement all stages of your project.

To find an organization that you want your potential initiative to support, try searching Turn Your World Around’s ServeWorld Search Engine. We have listed hundreds of causes in many different fields that you can support.

Now, you're ready to start planning your project!
