The Issue
In some countries, school is taken for granted by students. Unfortunately, education is not widespread. Costs, disease, safety, and sexism are only a few things that keep kids from going to school. In this way, generations after generations are born into poverty, lacking any way to break the vicious cycle.
Education is a fundamental step in the fight against poverty, totalitarianism, social injustice, and the improvement of general well-being.
-Over 860 million people are illiterate.
-15-35 million more teachers are necessary to provide primary education to the entire world.
-50% of women in the world are illiterate.
-Access to a primary education has actually fallen since 2000 in several countries.
-100 million children do not go to school.
-It would cost approximately $3.7 billion to ten billion per year to achieve universal primary education. In comparison, the world spent $1,118 billion on militaries and weapons in 2005.
